advanced modelling and animation brief

as part of the final year project for CGMA Advanced modeling and animation, here is my brief

this is what my project will encompass

for my final year project i will mainly focus on character modelling in fact i will work on two main game characters. one female  elf character inspired by world of warcraft  and the other one a dwarf character. the dwarf will be my own original design with inspiration taken from several existing characters such as the hulk, world of war craft dwarf.

no concepts will be created for either characters, rather i will use existing  characters as reference

the characters will both be UVed and textured

deliverables

as part of the project i will be delivering the following work

Character 1: a world of warcraft inspired female elf warrior as a maya scene file

[] character2: a dwarf character with full texture maps such as, defuse, specular, normal and the maya scene file

both characters will be provided in Maya 2010 format along with all the used textures and UVs

two renders of each character in a full HD resolution and tiff image format

reference/concepts used in the creation of the art assets will also be submitted

marking criteria

my main focus in this project will on creation of next gen cinematic trailer worthy models of two characters of very professional quality.

Concepts/character sheets

modeling   65%

as such i would like to be marked  on the following areas

[] the quality of the model, whether it is of professional standard

[] model edge flow: does the model maintain flawless and clean edge flow mainly quads polygon

i would like to be marked on the overall quality of the models and

Rigging
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Amendments.

Due to the fact that i lost my earlier work ''elf'' and  the ''dwarf'' characters in a HDD crash and also due to the fact that i ended up creating 3 characters rather than 2 as per the guidelines posted on UDO.. i feel it is necessary to make amends to this brief so to reflect the changes i have made to the project.

As already stated i have increased the number of characters to three namely ''hunter, my own representation of Ace ventura,, and a sumo wrestler chracter''. All of these character are rigged with a basic but very versatile pose rig.

I would also make amends and add more detail to the marking criteria for my work.

Marking Criteria ''Ammended''

Concepts/character sheets      5%

modeling   57%

[] the quality of the model, whether it is of professional standard.

[] model edge flow: does the model maintain flawless and clean edge flow? Except where necessary to save geometry.

Rigging    10%

10%   for the pose rigs for all three characters. Special attention should be given to the quality of skinning weights and the effectiveness of the rig for its intentional purpose '' posing the characters''.

Texturing and  UV Unwrapping, 8%

For the use of next generation, or rather current generation maps such as Normal maps/displacement maps defuse, and specular maps.

10% - Placement and presentation in the end of year show (this includes preparation,set-up, pastural care and take-down of the exhibition).

10% - Illustrated Report about your work including how you achieved the work

deliverables ''AMMENDED''

()Maya 2010 scene files for my three characters.

()I will also supply Maya Asci files as well MB files as I am using 2011 version at home for the project. This would avoid any compatibility issues as these formats can be imported to maya 2010.
()concepts/character sheets Posted on my Blog and Printed on A4 paper.

()Textures ''not in one particular format''.

()I will also hand in an illustrated report on my work and how achieved it.

() Presentation Material for the end of year show, although I am not graduating this year, so I don't know how this will work on top of that I will be abroad during the end of the ear show.
